01 · The problem
What problem does it solve?
A family jewellery showroom with a workshop sells 30–50 pieces a day. Rates are written on a board each morning, bills are worked out on a calculator, and making charges vary by salesman.
Gold goes to six karigars in packets with a note of the weight. At month end, nobody can say exactly how much gold is in the showroom, on approval with customers, or with karigars.
Billing errors
Rates, making and GST worked out by hand.
Stock gaps
Weight in the books ≠ weight in the trays.
Karigar losses
Wastage above the agreed limit goes unnoticed.
Slow counters
Customers wait while bills are calculated.
